[19 Feb 2008] New poll for airsoft_hollywood

Hi there!

The main reason why I started this poll is to see, whether you are interested in syntax highlightning for Hollywood. When I started with HW I was looking for an Amiga editor which can handle (own) syntax highlightning. The only one I discovered was the great "Cubic IDE". So right now I am assembling a package for Cubic IDE which contains at least syntax highlightning for HW and hopefully a bit more :-) as Cubic is greatly configurable. So it would be nice if many of you use Cubic so I can share my work with you and you can afford from it. If you have any suggestions for that work, please let me know.

If you are not familiar with Cubic IDE you can download a _fully_ working demo version at http://devplex.awardspace.biz/cubic/index.html. The only restriction is that the contained editor can not edit more than a few hundred lines of text.

Greetings, Micha
Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the airsoft_hollywood group:

I voted for "other" as I currently use WinUAE and do my code editing on the PC side of things. I would love a syntax highlighted editor but would be reluctant to use one for my HollyWood coding unless it was either integrated into Designer, or Designer could run on its own separate screen.

Personally It think that the most helpful thing for Designer right now, though, is the selecting (for move, rotation etc) of multiple items using the shift key, or by drawing a box around them with the mouse cursor.

By the way, the link for Cubic just redirected me to this page http://www.awardspace.com/tour_us.html :s

cheers! Clayton

I also use WinUAE, but nevertheless I wanted to work with as much of Amiga software that's possible, so I decided to buy Cubic and work with it under WinUAE. Additionally I wanted to do sth for the ones who use an original Amiga and can't use PC editor. BTW: Which editor do you use at the PC?

Hm, I guess my Amiga knowledge is to low, but what would be the advantage (for you) when Designer would run on its own screen?

Yeah, of course it would be cool to have it integrated in Designer, but as you also mentioned, there are more important things and I can imagine that this is a lot of work to do.

Seconded!!!

Hm, strange. Do you live in the US? I will write Dietmar about that. Are you interested in the Cubic demo?

Cheers! Micha

Hello, I've voted for others. Actually I used WinUAE even if my target platform is AROS. The fastest way I've found (and free) is to use the great PSPad editor for Windows and testing my code in WinUAE. Even if PSPad haven't support for Hollywood is pretty simple to configurate your own syntax hilighting so during code editing often I add HW commands and my own function to hilight them with different colors. You can download PSPad for free here <http://www.pspad.com/> , maybe we can make a config file and share it if someone is interested.

Designer can run on its own screen. Use the MUI preferences in the menu bar for that.

Hey Clayton!
HI :)
BTW: Which editor do you use at the PC?
I use Notepad++ Portable

Well, it would make it a lot easier to flip between the amigaguide Hollywood reference, and the designer screen. Luckily Andreas has said that this feature is already available :D
Hm, strange. Do you live in the US? I will write Dietmar about that. Are you interested in the Cubic demo?
No I live in the UK. And, tbh, I'm probably not interested in the Demo. I've spent quite a lot on Amiga software lately and have been

I also voted for the others. I use Notepad++ for the development and use Winaue because I dont own Amiga(or MOS machine) anymore. In Notepad++ you can also define your own language highlight syntax and I almost got it done fully before my PC "died" and I lost all the work :( I just re-joined this group and will buy the new hollywood soon. I've purchased almost every version that have been released.

BTW, Is anybody interested in a proper BBS because this Yahoo mailinglist sucks big time(atleast in browser)?! I work in a hosting company and I can setup proper forum(phpBB, SMF etc.) if necessary. Maybe a poll for this would be good? ;)

regards, Markku

Seems that Notepad++ seems to be a good alternative. I will have a look at it. I hope to go on soon with the Cubic stuff nevertheless, had no time the last weeks. :-( And don't forget: I also just have/use WinUAE and additionally I use Cubic in WinUAE. I try to support good Amiga software although I "just" use WinUAE.

That would be definitely good!!! Good be better used for bug tracking and problem solving. Would give a better overview and ressource about the problems and solutions others have. Go for it! :-)

Well, if you ask me a forum is not really necessary because the community is not so big and email traffic is quite low. So a new Hollywood forum would probably not cause many posts but stay quite empty.

So I'd suggest to stick with the mailing list. I admit that it sucks that the list is "invite only" but I've added this nice button to my website so it should be possible for interested users to find us.

Also email is much more convenient for me than having to visit a forum and reading all the topics. I'm more of the email guy :)
