oggvorbis or mp3 files for short samples?

I want to play a set of sounds depending on how the game ends and want to know whether ogg or mp3 files would be best to use. Is there another low-overhead method to play samples? I don't need to do processing on it, just play it as-is...

I would say ogg, as i see (only based on other ppl comments) a bit more compatible

However if you target in small sample and you need speed better is 8svx (or wav)

If you you need disk space economy try tracker samples i
It can be as low as a few bytes....

OGG is the best option, as its sound files are smaller in terms of byte size compared to MP3s; by including the OGG plugin, you ensure compatibility across all systems. As for the 8SVX format, it has the advantage of not requiring plugins, but it also comes with drawbacks: the software used for the conversion might not be compatible with Hollywood, or a given audio sample might fail to work on certain systems—for instance, Linux.

Yes, because in my last project I converted some ogg files to 8svx with my little tool A.C.M. and the 8svx files works fine on MorphOS and Windows but not with Linux, only were played fine the sound files converted with the old Sample Manager.

What you are refering too is a possible fault in transforming a sample

While a true 8svx is confirmed working in linux
Even you said that converting with another converter the converter 8svx,with competiting tool, works.

So suming up 8svx is multiplatform working :-)
