Video Support

Post by djrikki »

Hi,

Having problems with the video playback support in Hollywood 5. Does the plug-in attempt to use any kind of hardware acceleration?

I only ask because there isn't any hardware acceleration support yet for the Radeon HD 4650 which I am using on this SAM 460ex and I am experiencing a whole host of problems. Though I suspect the plug-in itself is the cause of most of these.

Secondly, though its a fantastic start, your own Videoplayer fails to recognise lots of video formats I threw at even for the ones it claims to support. Also forwarding and rewinding through an AVI resulted in the Videoplayer locking up entirely - the particular videos in question are Motion JPEG AVIs if thats any help.

I also played around with some code as well SetVideoSize was fine for videos without sound, but soon as I tried it on a video with sound it screwed up big time - again I suspect the plug-in is at fault - although its also worth bearing in mind that I am using beta sound drivers as well just to compound the issue further.

Also as a tip to developers make sure you use CTRLCQuit(False) whilst a video is playing because if the user tries pressing CTRL+C they will get a DSI.

Do you have any other systems that you could test this on? Maybe a PC with WinUAE? Then we could easily get an idea if it's a general problem or related to the beta sound drivers. Ctrl C during video playback works fine here on all systems. I don't have a Sam460 though.

Under WinUAE the video player goes very but very slow.

I am going to release Jack with limited Video playback support and encourage the community to test-drive the hell out of it.

They can currently:

Play at half size
Play at original size
Play at full screen
Play and Pause
Adjust volume

All seeking will be disabled because (for me least) it locks up. If the response is positive on other hardware configurations
I will put all the seeking abilities in place and advise users with a configuration like mine to avoid seeking.

Please note that the seeking problems might also come from the AVCodec.hwp plugin. Seeking is a highly complicated operation for many video codecs and ffmpeg's support is not 100% yet. Still, I don't have any problems seeking videos here. I tried DivX, MPEG, MPEG2, MOV and FLV videos without problems.
