Hello
as we all know, current IDE is a bit "freeze" in development.
I fully understand that this is needed extra work, and scheduled time for this is difficult to found, even in hard working men in coding industry
So, a lot of competitor languages/dialects have gone this way,, they choose the ide of their choice, create some modification and distribute it in "official language installation package".
In our cases just a "plugin" with simple stuff is enough (spelling , integrate help, add some options for direct compiling and debugging)
Such a move will free up significant time form development team, while at the same time will provide significant benefits.
increased features, cross platform (win/linux/mac) and problems solved from other teams Are the first and most significant advantages out of this move
In the end will increase value of language in general.
IF such a decision made, my personal wishes will be to be a SIMPLE tool, (NOT VISUAL M$ for example) since vast majority of hollywood users are here because they want simplicity.
too few thing i think needed
like syntax highlight
help integration (f1)
direct compiling/ running from ide(f5)
project management

The option to have your own language in The Windows IDE, I did this proposition many years ago, but Andreas must think that we can hack his work, when with your own language open the IDE to other users that don't speak the english, or for example that you want the IDE in klingom.
Re: PROPOSAL-DISCUSSION , Official Move to OpenSource "IDE" ?
I can not see how "can hack his work" using a opensource ide

Ok on a second thought i think you misunderstood
I dont propose to open the source code of current IDE
but use an opensource one, like eclipse, synwrite etc
As the official one, with some modifications to suit hollywood needs

Im bit of missing your point here in what are you after?
If you are talking of IDE that we the users could ourselves update instead of Andreas, then we already have couple of in Amiga and even Visual Studio Code plugin in windows.
What comes to the official IDE that comes with Windows version, that also to my understanding is not made from scratch by Andreas, but it is modified version of some pre-existing IDE, similar to how Hollywood is modified version of LUA.
So I am not sure what benefit it would give to make Hollywood IDE that "open source" kind of thing that you suggested when we already sort of have that if I have understood right.

Re: PROPOSAL-DISCUSSION , Official Move to OpenSource "IDE" ?
Definitelly not speaking to open source of current ide
But to choose as a community a opensource general use ide
Lets say for example eclipse
Throw away current ide. And use eclispse as the official one
F.e. installing hollywood will install a version of eclipse WITH some modification in order to. Be "hollywood ide"

Please, not Eclipse. It's bloated and written in Java. The possibility of automated code refactoring is appealing though.
I'm on registered MorphOS using FlowStudio.

I think Andreas was interested in doing a "code edit" gadget based on SciTE for RapaGUI at some point. Then the rest could be written in Hollywood.

Re: PROPOSAL-DISCUSSION , Official Move to OpenSource "IDE" ?
yes but this "proposal" completely removes develpment time from Andreas.
Since developing something in Rapagui would be crossplatform offcourse, but still will need significant develpment time, and practically will never meet completion level of huge IDE ...
