I personally don't think JIT would give that much of an speed increase in 2d perfomance. Hardware acceleration would be the key factor.

When I program in Limbo for Inferno, I usually don't use JIT at all because It complicates debugging and makes system less flexible. Speed increase with JIT is noticeable only with very computing intensive tasks like calculating 100 million prime numbers.

@Jalih: +1000, I think the same thing, no JIT, just 2D engine on AOS/Morphos, i think it is more simple and more faster to make.

It's definitely the 2D engine that would need optimizations. A JIT wouldn't help because it could just run the script's opcodes faster, but the bottleneck is of course in the 2D engine. It's planned to optimize this in the future but currently there are some more important things left to do :)

@Andreas: Good ;) Optimisation of 2D engine (vector and bitmap GFx), will bring more interest for All.I hope that version 5 of hollywood will this improvement ;)

FYI: The next version of Hollywood will support hardware accelerated double buffer drawing on OS4.1 and MorphOS. This will increase the drawing speed by 500% or so. Thus it's sufficient to make all your 2D game dreams come true with Hollywood :)

Okay calm down children - we know your excited! Andreas is unlikely to respond to posts full of uppercase letters and excessive use of exclamation marks.

Yes its great that Andreas has implemented this change, but this change alone in isolation won't inspire everyone to part with their cash. There are other things that we all 'wish' for and hopefully some of these will make it on to the list in the next available update.
