Linux archive filenames

Post by SamuraiCrow »

Filenames for XMP plugin, Hollywood Player and maybe others are named *.tar.gz but are internally normal *.zip files. They should probably be renamed accordingly.

Huh? No, they aren't. The macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android distributions come as ZIP files. Amiga comes as LHA and only Linux comes as TAR.GZ (because of its capability to store Unix permissions).

That's odd. When I tried to open the files in Manjaro XFCE using its Archive Manager it complained that the files weren't really .tar.gz until I renamed them with a .zip suffix.

Probably an issue in Archive Manager. If you use tar directly, you'll see that they're correct tar files.
