Icons in Menus

Already mentioned elsewhere in the past.... but having just downloaded the new MultiViewer I have spotted that it uses AISS icons in the menus... and because of it it does look much more modern. This would be great to have implemented in MUI Royale too... supposing that MUI itself supports it?

I think MUI supports it now but it isn't in the MUI version that is shipped with FE. And then there's of course the problem that it's an OS4-only feature.

Nightly builds of MUI4 are available for free for AmigaOS3 and AmigaOS4. And the official release of MUI4-2015R2 is scheduled for tomorrow.

The main window of the NewStuff window features a pulldown menu with an image (not a very fancy one, I must admit) for demonstration purposes.

This is not entierly true. Although only AmigaOS4 can make use of the images in any kind of menu even AmigaOS3 can use them in context menus, too. And if the menu display in MUI applications is switched from system menus to MUI's own internal display then they can also be used there. Only real systems menus cannot make use of these images with AmigaOS3.

Well, starting with MUI Royale 1.3 icons in context menus are already supported. Only in system menus do icons remain unsupported because it's OS4 only.

Well, that's what I said, this is not entirely true. It is true that the menus being displayed by AmigaOS3's intuition.library cannot handle the images. But if the same menu is displayed by MUI itself (i.e. activate MUI prefs -> Menus -> Enable embedded menu bar or activate MUI prefs -> Menus -> Appearance -> like popup menus) then even AmigaOS3 can display them. Hence this feature should not be limited to AmigaOS4 only. I admit this requires some actions by the user but it is definitely possible.

Ok, didn't know about this feature. I'll check it out in the near future.

I have looked in the Hollywood/GUI program and I cannot find a demo by that name. Unless you mean somewhere else?
